If you are a Wix user, the most common problem is the cookie banner preventing display.
If you've seen the popup once and it won't show again the most common problem is a 'recurrence' setting designed to stop popups from annoying people by displaying too many times. Check the "Should the display show multiple times?" under rules.

Step 1: Check the install by using the preview function.

Enter a URL the popup should display on
Select 'Ignore rules'
Click 'Launch preview'

Did the preview work?

No, it didn't show

If the preview didn't show, that means that Promolayer isn't installed correctly.

Please use the install button from the top right.

Yes, the preview works but it's not visible on my live site

Next, check the orange debug window in the preview. It will list the reasons the popup is not visible on your live site.

In the following screenshot we can see a popup for our upcoming app "Asklayer". The debug window shows that the popup will not show due to

"Show on these pages / don't show on these page"

Wix user login guide

Wix users must login via the Wix backend.

Wix users do not have an email and password based login, the only method of access is via the Wix dashboard.

Navigate to 'Manage apps"
Click 'Open' on the Promolayer app.

Page targeting and exclusion (URL)

Promolayer can target specific pages, products, categories etc using URL rules.

Quick usage examples

Be sure to check the correct URLs on your own website and replace the match text in examples as needed.

Show everywhere Leave all rules blank.

Show on homepage and nowhere else 'Show on these pages' Match type -> URL Equals Match text -> https://mysite.com/

Display everywhere except for cart and checkout 'Don't show on these pages' Match type -> URL Contains Match text -> cart

'Don't show on these pages' Match type -> URL Contains Match text -> checkout

Please check your own website to find the correct name for your checkout and cart page.

Display for all pages within a certain category 'Show on these pages' Match type -> URL Starts with Match text -> https://mysite.com/my-category/

Target a specific Google campaign 'Show on these pages' Match type -> URL Contains Match text -> utm_campaign=mycampaign

Advanced info

Exclusion rules always take precedence over target rules.
Trailing slashes (slashes at the end of URLs) are ignored for targeting, both with or without should work.
URL Equals, Starts with and Ends with match the URL without the search parameters or hash.
URL Contains matches the full URL including search parameters and hash.

Triggers

A Promolayer display can be triggered in a number of ways. These triggers can be found in the display editor under the 'Rules' tab.

Available triggers

Show immediately As soon as the page has finished loading the display will trigger.

Display on exit intent (Abandonment preventer) Desktop Promolayer tracks mouse movement and when the mouse moves out of the browser window (to close or change tab) the display is activated.

Mobile When the address bar is activated, the tab is minimized or tab-to-tab swipe begins the display will trigger.

Back button capture When the user presses the back button or swipes backwards on a mobile device, navigation will be cancelled and the display will be triggered. The second time the user presses back or swipes the browser will navigate as usual.

Time on site longer than When a user remains on the targeted page longer than the entered number of seconds the display will trigger.

Idle on site for When a user does not interact with the mouse or keyboard or touchscreen for longer than the entered number of seconds the display will trigger.

Scroll depth reaches When a user scrolls more than the selected distance down the page the popup will trigger.

Custom trigger with Javascript Use the code found in the display editors rule section under [Get trigger code] and combine it with your own Javascript for more complex triggers.

Wix Cookie banner preventing popup from displaying

Popup not displaying? The most common problem is the Wix cookie banner blocking 3rd party scripts.

If you enable the Wix cookie banner and the user (you) clicks 'Decline all' on the cookie banner Wix will then block 3rd party scripts. This is not just Promolayer but all popup tools (and various other apps) will be blocked.

To test again, open your website in an "Incognito" window (Chrome browser) or a "Private window (Safari) and accept cookies.
